Crochet Baby Alien

The Crochet Baby Alien amigurumi is a free pattern here on my blog! This quick crochet pattern is an excellent gift idea for any alien fans in your life. Scroll on down for the free pattern and video tutorial!

The design idea for this adorable crochet Baby Alien came from my loving partner Keith. I absolutely love to design crochet patterns for adorable little animals so why not a little alien too? I've since noticed tons of patterns available for different creator's interpretations of the little guy!

Using simple stitches, this free pattern is beginner to intermediate level amigurumi. It is comprised of the body base, head, ears and arms which are then stuffed and stitched together using a tapestry needle. The finished crochet Baby Alien is approximately 6 inches tall and stands alone without support if stuffed and shaped correctly. The small size makes this project quick to whip up! You could easily increase the yarn weight and hook sizes to make a larger project if you'd like.

I chose medium (4) worsted weight yarn for my crochet baby alien design. I enjoy working with worsted weight yarn in most of my projects since it's affordable, versatile, durable and abundantly available in most local craft stores. I keep a variety of colors on hand for when inspiration strikes! You could easily substitute for another worsted weight yarn as long as the ounces per gram are similar.

For this tutorial, I'm using the following yarn:

For the light beige/cream, I think Red Heart Super Saver in the color Buff would be a good substitute.

This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

Round 1: With brown in a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)

Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next* (18 stitches)

Round 4: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next 2 stitches* (24 stitches)

Round 5: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next 3 stitches* (30 stitches)

Round 6: In the back loops only, SC in each stitch (30 stitches)

Rounds 7-9: SC in each stitch (30 stitches)

Round 10: SC dec, SC in the next three stitches* (24 stitches)

Round 11: SC in each stitch (24 stitches)

On the last stitch of the 11th row, switch to beige

Rounds 12-16: SC in each stitch (24 stitches)

Slip stitch into the first stitch of the next round,

Chain 1, tie off with a long tail; pull through that chain 1 to secure

At this point, we are going to roll down the beige to make a cozy 'turtleneck' of sorts.

Using a tapestry needle and the long tail, stitch down the turtleneck.

Tie off and trim any excess yarn.

Add stuffing and set aside.

Round 1: With green in a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)

Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next* (18 stitches)

Round 4: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next 2 stitches* (24 stitches)

Rounds 5-8: SC in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 9: SC dec, SC in the next 2* (18 stitches)

Round 10: SC dec, SC in the next* (12 stitches)

Add safety eyes & stuffing

Round 11: SC dec* (6 stitches)

chain 1, tie off with a long tail; pull through that chain stitch to secure

Using the long tail and a tapestry needle, stitch the head onto the body.

With green, Chain 9

Row 1: SC in each stitch, chain 1 (8 stitches)

Row 2: SC dec, SC in the next 6 stitches, chain 1 (7 stitches)

Row 3: SC dec, SC in the next 5 stitches, chain 1 (6 stitches)

Row 4: SC dec, SC in the next 4 stitches, chain 1 (5 stitches)

Row 5: SC dec, SC in the next 3 stitches, chain 1 (4 stitches)

Row 6: SC dec, SC in the next 2 stitches, chain 1 (3 stitches)

Row 7: SC dec, SC in the next stitch, chain 1 (2 stitches)

Row 8: SC dec (1 stitch)

Chain 1, continue up the left side with a row of slip stitches around the entire ear (chaining 1 in each corner)

When you arrive back to the tip of the ear, chain 1, SC into the tip, slip stitch, chain 1

Tie off pulling through that chain stitch to secure

and weave in the loose end.

Using green yarn and your tapestry needle, stitch the two corners of the bottom of the ear together. They 'roll' inward to create the curve of the alien ears. Attach to the head.

Round 1: In a magic circle, chain 1, SC 6, pull tight

Round 2: SC in each stitch around (6 stitches)

on the last stitch of the 2nd round, switch to brown

Round 3: SC in each stitch around (6 stitches)

Slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with long tail

 Using a yarn needle, attach the arms to the body.
