Pattern Design + Construction:

I love the smell of fresh baked pumpkin pie around the holidays. There's something so cozy and comforting about holiday baked goods! I thought it would be fun to design an adorable little pumpkin pie amigurumi project. This crochet pumpkin pie makes the perfect festive addition to your Thanksgiving table or fall home décor. These pies can also be whipped up as fun fall toys or photo props for little ones.

One of my favorite aspects of designing small amigurumi patterns is how quickly they work up! These would make adorable party favors or fall gifts. Another fun feature of this crochet pumpkin pie is the option to add variation by changing the yarn colors of the pie filling. See below where a fellow maker has whipped up a batch of cherry, pumpkin, blueberry and key lime pies!

I would say this is a fairly beginner friendly amigurumi pattern using only basic stitches. Each crochet pumpkin pie is comprised of the top which is worked in continuous rounds with the pie crust added as a border, the whipped cream which is crocheted separately and stitched onto the top using a tapestry needle, and the bottom which is also crocheted in continuous rounds. The top and bottom are stitched together using a tapestry needle and let's not forget the fiberfill stuffing! The finished pumpkin pie amigurumi measures approximately 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall; however, one can easily create a larger pie by using a larger crochet hook and heavier weight yarn.

Yarn:

I chose medium (4) worsted weight yarn for my crochet pumpkin pie design. I enjoy working with worsted weight yarn in most of my projects since it's affordable, versatile, durable and abundantly available in most local craft stores. I keep a variety of colors on hand for when inspiration strikes! You could easily substitute for another worsted weight yarn as long as the ounces per gram are similar.

For this tutorial, I'm using the following yarn:

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g. in the color Pumpkin

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g. in the color White

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g. in the color Black

  • Yarn Bee Yarn ID, Medium 4, 5 oz / 252 yd in the color Oats

For the pie crust, I think Red Heart Super Saver in the color Buff would be a good substitute.
