Pumpkin Coffee Cozy - Free Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 26

Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm excited to share my free crochet pattern for this adorable Pumpkin Coffee Cozy! This quick fall crochet project makes the perfect sweater for your favorite mug and an even better fall-themed gift idea!

This Pumpkin Coffee Cozy is comprised of the coffee sleeve base which is crocheted in rows to create a flat rectangle and the pumpkin applique which is stitched onto the base using a tapestry needle. The coffee sleeve base is seamed together at the end using a tapestry needle. The finished coffee cozy measures approximately 4" tall by 4" wide when lying flat. This pattern can be adjusted to fit the width of your mug of choice (see the coffee sleeve base pattern detail below for adjustment instructions).

Pumpkin Applique:

With Orange Yarn,

Round 1: In a magic circle, chain 2, DC 9, slip stitch into the chain one to create a circle, pull tight

Round 2: 2 DC in the first 4 stitches, slip stitch, 2 DC in the next 4 stitches, slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long tail.

Stem:

With Brown Yarn, Chain 4

Slip stitch in the 3rd chain from the hook, slip stitch in the next, chain 1

Tie off with a long enough tail to sew onto your pumpkin.

Mug Size Adjustment

This pattern is designed to fit a standard Starbucks reusable mug. However, you can easily adjust your chain stitch amount on the base of the coffee cozy pattern to fit the mug of your choice! You'll chain the amount that fits perfectly around your mug + 1 chain stitch. For instance, if 28 stitches fit perfectly around your mug you will chain 29 and each row will be 28 stitches.

Coffee Cozy Base:

With bulky yarn, Chain 17

Rows 1-7: SC in each stitch, chain 1 (16 stitches)

Tie off with a long tail

Attach the Pumpkin Applique:

Using the long orange tail and a tapestry needle, attach the pumpkin to the coffee cozy base.

Tie off on the back side and trim any excess yarn.

Assembly / Invisible Seam:

  • Fold the coffee cozy with the wrong side out (pumpkin on the inside) and line up the rough edges.

  • Using a tapestry needle and the long tail, stitch the rough ends together. Pay close attention to the top and bottom of the join to ensure it won't pull apart when stretched over the mug.

  • I like to tie off by double/triple knotting the tails together on the inside and trimming any excess yarn.

  • Turn right side out.
