Santa Mustache Cozy - Free Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 11

Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm excited to share my Santa Mustache Cozy free crochet pattern with you! This festive pattern works up quickly and makes the perfect holiday sweater for your mug. This is a throwback pattern from 2017 when I first started writing my own crochet patterns! I thought it would be a fun way to get us in the Holiday Spirit!

This coffee sleeve is comprised of the coffee sleeve base which is crocheted in rows to create a flat rectangle. The mustache is crocheted separately and attached to the cozy using a tapestry needle. The coffee sleeve base is seamed together at the end also using a tapestry needle. The finished coffee cozy measures approximately 3.5" tall by 4" wide when lying flat. This pattern can be adjusted to fit the width of your mug of choice (see the coffee sleeve base pattern detail below for adjustment instructions).

Mug Size Adjustment

This pattern is designed to fit a standard Starbucks reusable mug. However, you can easily adjust your chain stitch amount on the base of the coffee cozy pattern to fit the mug of your choice! You'll chain the amount that fits perfectly around your mug + 1 chain stitch. For instance, if 28 stitches fit perfectly around your mug you will chain 29 and each row will be 28 stitches.

Mustache Crochet Pattern:

With white, chain 19

  • slip stitch, slip stitch, SC, DC, DC, TC, TC, DC, slip stitch

  • slip stitch, DC, TC, TC, DC, DC, SC, slip stitch, stitch

chain 1, tie off with a long tail and pull through that chain stitch to secure.

Using our tapestry needle and the long white tail, stitch on the adorable mustache in the center above the belt buckle. Tie off and trim any excess white yarn.

Invisible Seam:

  • Fold the coffee cozy with the wrong side out (mustache on the inside) and line up the rough edges.

  • Using a tapestry needle and the long tails, stitch the rough ends together. Pay close attention to the top and bottom of the join to ensure it won't pull apart when stretched over the mug.

  • I like to tie off by double/triple knotting the tails together on the inside and trimming any excess yarn.

  • Turn right side out.
