Star Christmas Ornament - Free Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 10

Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm excited to share my Star Christmas Ornament free crochet pattern with you! These ornaments are super quick and easy to make with just two rounds of crochet. They make the perfect handmade gift idea or budget-friendly Christmas decor! I just love the cozy, minimalist style of these ornaments with the wooden buttons.

Each star measures approximately 1.5-2" and is crocheted in the round. The buttons are sewed on with a needle and thread and the jute hanger is added to the finished ornament. You could easily increase the size of your ornaments by using larger yarn and a larger crochet hook.

Star Christmas Ornament - Free Crochet Pattern

Crochet Star:

Round 1: In a magic circle, chain 1, SC 10, pull magic circle tight, slip stitch into the first SC of the round

Round 2:

We will repeat the following steps 5 times to make the five points of the star:

  • Chain 5, SC in the 3rd chain from your hook, HDC, DC (this makes 1 point)

  • To join the point to the base, skip 1 SC on the base of the round and sl st into the next stitch

  • Repeat

After the last stitch, chain 1 and tie off pulling through that chain 1 to secure.

Weave the ends into the back where you can make sure that center of your magic circle is pulled tight and tie the two ends together to keep it secure. Then trim any excess yarn.

Snowflake Button:

The wooden buttons are absolutely adorable! I found them on Amazon and the link is above in the materials section. You could use any button you like to make this project unique.

Using a traditional needle and thread, we'll stitch our button onto the center of the star.

I chose to use simple jute to hang my stars for the organic feel, but you could easily hang them with yarn or ribbon.

I hope you have enjoyed creating with me! I had so much fun designing this Star Christmas Ornament Free Crochet Pattern!
