Crochet Fleece Cowl

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

This beginner friendly Crochet Fleece Cowl is a free pattern on my blog! This butter soft textured scarf is a quick crochet gift idea that can be whipped up in one sitting! Keep scrolling for the free pattern and video tutorial.

Pattern Design + Construction:

This luxurious crochet cowl was inspired by my love of wearing scarves and my passion for quick crochet projects! This Fleece Cowl is perfect for beginners since it only requires two basic stitches. The super bulky yarn makes it extremely quick to work up. It is my new favorite Netflix & Crochet pattern. I can finish one in an evening while watching my favorite shows!

These Crochet Fleece Cowls are excellent gift ideas since they look and feel store-bought. The soft texture of this yarn (more yarn specs below) creates a gorgeous and comfy accessory. These are also an affordable gift idea since each skein is approximately $12 in the US, but most craft stores run 30-40% off on yarn regularly.

Finished Size (adjustable): 16 inches long x 10.5 inches wide (when lying flat)

Yarn:

We'll be using Bernat Forever Fleece yarn for this project. I did not know it was possible to find yarn this soft and cozy! Seriously, I'm in love with this plush texture. This is a super bulky (6) weight yarn that currently comes in 8 colors (I would love to see some other colors added, like mustard or pumpkin!). I'm a scarf and cowl wearing kind of gal and nothing makes me happier than an infinity style scarf/cowl with super soft, yet breathable material. This yarn was butter soft to work with and one skein was plenty for this project with quite a bit leftover. This pattern also works well with Wool Ease Thick & Quick yarn, which is a crowd favorite (okay, one of my favorites too)!

So far, I've made a cowl in each of the colors below:

  • Bernat Forever Fleece, Super Bulky 6, 9.9 oz / 280 g, 194 yd in the color Balsam

  • Bernat Forever Fleece, Super Bulky 6, 9.9 oz / 280 g, 194 yd in the color Rose Hip

  • Bernat Forever Fleece, Super Bulky 6, 9.9 oz / 280 g, 194 yd in the color Matcha

  • Bernat Forever Fleece, Super Bulky 6, 9.9 oz / 280 g, 194 yd in the color Dark Eucalyptus
