Yarn:
For this free pattern, we'll be using medium (4) worsted weight yarn. I really enjoy using worsted weight yarn for most of my projects because of the versatility as well as the availability in most craft stores. Worsted weight yarn also tends to come in very affordable brands. You can easily substitute with other brands and colors as long as the ounces per gram are similar. I've used the following for this project:

Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g, in the color SaffronÂ

Weave in the ends and trim any excess yarn.
Metal Eraser Stripe:
Using gray yarn,
Create a slip knot on your hook.
With the right side facing up (pretty side), join where the pink and yellow yarn meet on the right side of the pencil. Slip stitch across until you reach the end on the left side.
Tie off with a long enough tail to weave in the end.
Weave in and trim any excess yarn.
Crochet Paper:
With white yarn, chain 13
Rows 1-16: SC in each stitch, chain 1 (12 stitches)
Border:
After the chain 1 stitch at the end of Row 16, continue working down the left side of the paper with a single crochet border.
The only exception to SC will be adding a chain 1 at each corner of the paper.
Tie off and weave in the ends.
Blue Lines:
Using blue yarn,
Create a slip knot on your hook.
Including the border, there are 18 rows if you count top to bottom.
With the right side facing up (pretty side), join on the right side between the 4th & 5th rows.
Slip stitch across until you reach the end on the left side.
Tie off with a long enough tail to weave in the end.
Weave in and trim any excess yarn.
Repeat four more times:
between rows 7 and 8
between rows 10 and 11
between rows 13 and 14
between rows 16 and 17
This will leave you with 5 blue lines, with extra white space at the top.
Pink Line:
Using pink yarn,
Create a slip knot on your hook
With the right side facing up (pretty side) and vertical, slip stitch one row toward the left side of the paper over the top of the blue lines.
Tie off with a long enough tail to weave in the end.
Weave in and trim any excess yarn.
