Pattern Design + Construction

This Crochet Pumpkin Cuddler is the perfect little friend to keep the scaries away! The pattern works up quickly and makes a great Halloween-themed gift idea. It also pairs nicely with my Crochet Ghost Cuddler design! I would classify this free pattern as beginner friendly since it uses basic stitches and the majority is comprised of single crochet.

The finished Crochet Pumpkin Cuddler measures approximately 6 inches tall by 8 inches wide and consists of a front and back panel, arms, legs and stem. We will be stitching on a cute little face with a tapestry needle and adding a bit of stuffing between the front and back panels before seaming up with a round of single crochet. The arms, legs and stem are attached using a tapestry needle. You could easily make a larger version of this pumpkin cuddler or turn it into an accent pillow by using a larger crochet hook and bulkier yarn.

Yarn:

For our Crochet Pumpkin Cuddler, I chose medium Worsted Weight (4) Yarn. It's versatile and wears well while also being soft and cozy which is perfect for a lovey pattern! You could easily substitute brands of worsted weight yarn for a similar outcome as long as the ounces per gram are similar. Worsted weight is available in most local craft stores at an affordable price, which is a plus for me!

For this project, I used the following yarn colors:

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g in the color Pumpkin

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g in the color Black

  • Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 7 oz / 198 g in the color Café Latte

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color Pumpkin is used for the Crochet Pumpkin Cuddler Free Pattern.

Closing: Turn the work so that the foundation chain and the 6th row are lined up and slip stitch them together to create the stem (4 stitches)

Turn the work and slip stitch one of the open ends together as well, chain 1 (3 stitches)

Tie off with a long tail.

This leaves one end open for a little stuffing.

This crochet pumpkin lovey is perfect for little ones!

Arms & Legs:

With orange yarn,

Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)

Round 2: 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next* (9 stitches)

Round 3: SC in each stitch (9 stitches)

Slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long tail.

I used the other end of the tail as stuffing.

Using a yarn needle, stitch the opening in the bottom closed.

Face:

Using a yarn needle and black yarn, stitch a cute little face on one panel of the body. To create semi-circles for the eyes and mouth, I stitch a wide capital letter V that isn't too tight so it curves. Feel free to get creative with your face!

This free pattern for the crochet pumpkin cuddler is quick and easy!

Assembly:

Line up the front and back panels of the crochet pumpkin cuddler (make sure the correct sides are facing out).

We're going to join the front and back of the body with a row of single crochet, adding stuffing before finishing the join. Once you've arrived back to the beginning of the join, slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long enough tail to weave in your end.

Using a tapestry needle and the long tails, attach the little arms, legs and stem.

Weave in and trim any excess yarn.
