Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm so excited to share my free crochet pattern for this cozy Thermal Stitch Hot Pad! These hot pads are super quick to make with one 50 yard skein of bulky cotton yarn. They make an excellent thoughtful, handmade housewarming gift ideas or simple minimalist kitchen accessories!
Each hot pad is worked in a flat square using a 'thermal stitch'; the loop is added at the end. The finished hot pad measures approximately 8 x 8 inches. It is important to use cotton yarn for this project so it won’t melt when you place hot items on it!

Thermal Stitch Hot Pad - Free Crochet Pattern
Hot Pad Base:
Chain 19
Row 1: SC in the back bump in each stitch of the chain stitches, chain 1 (18 stitches)
Rows 2-27: We are going to continue to SC in each stitch, but it will be a thermal stitch, chain 1 (18 stitches)
thermal stitch - Insert the hook in the back loop only then continue down through the loop left directly below from the previous row. You'll have 2 loops on the hook, yarnover, pull through both loops, yarnover, pull through both loops again.
Row 28: Since this is the last row, we will continue the thermal stitch but we will use both loops instead of just the back loop and the loop from the row below. So 3 loops on the hook before the yarnover. (18 stitches)
Hanger Loop:
Chain 9, slip stitch into the same corner stitch.
Chain 1, tie off pulling through the chain stitch to secure.
Weave in the ends and trim any excess yarn.
