Crochet Donut Coasters

These colorful crochet donut coasters whip up quickly and are great for crochet beginners! The simple stitches used make this pattern as soothing as baking without the mess! Whip up a batch of yummy donuts as a crochet gift for a friend or use them for your favorite coffee mug to bring a smile as you sip.

Each crochet donut coaster is worked in flat rounds of single crochet and consists of the donut base and frosting. Optional embellishments include a face and sprinkles, which are stitched on using a tapestry needle. The completed donuts measure approximately 4 inches wide. You could easily make a larger donut by increasing yarn and hook sizes.

For this free pattern, we'll be using medium (4) worsted weight yarn. I really enjoy using worsted weight yarn for most of my projects because of the versatility as well as the availability in most craft stores. Worsted weight yarn also tends to come in very affordable brands. You can easily substitute with other brands and colors as long as the ounces per gram are similar. This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

With beige yarn, chain 12, slip stitch into the first chain (creating a circle)

Round 1: SC in each stitch (12 stitches)

Round 2: INC, SC in the next* (18 stitches)

Round 3: INC, SC in the next 2 stitches* (24 stitches)

Round 4: INC, SC in the next 3 stitches* (30 stitches)

Round 5: INC, SC in the next 4 stitches* (36 stitches)

Round 6: INC, SC in the next 5 stitches* (42 stitches)

Round 7: INC, SC in the next 6 stitches* (48 stitches)

Slip stitch into the next stitch, chain 1, tie off.

Weave in the ends and trim any excess yarn.

With your frosting color yarn of choice, chain 18, slip stitch into the first chain (creating a circle)

Round 1: SC in each stitch (18 stitches)

Round 2: INC, SC in the next 2 stitches* (24 stitches)

Round 3: INC, SC in the next 3 stitches* (30 stitches)

Round 4: INC, SC in the next 4 stitches* (36 stitches)

Round 5: INC, SC in the next 5 stitches* (42 stitches)

Slip stitch into the next stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long tail for attaching.

Weave in the short tail and trim any excess yarn.

The cute little face and sprinkles are optional additions to this donut coaster. If you choose to add them, they are stitched directly onto the frosting piece with a tapestry needle. Tie off and trim on the back side of the frosting.

Using the long tail on the frosting and a tapestry needle, attach the frosting to the top of the donut base. Once securely stitched on, tie off and trim any excess on the back side.
