Rustic Pumpkins - Free Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 30

Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm so excited to share my Rustic Pumpkins Free Crochet Pattern! These pumpkins are the perfect fall décor addition to your home or office space! The pattern works up so quickly, which also makes them great Halloween or Thanksgiving gift ideas!

Each rustic pumpkin is comprised of the pumpkin base, which is crocheted in rows to create a flat rectangle which is joined together at the end to create a tube shape. We will be seaming up the top and bottom and adding fiberfill stuffing, the stem, and a bow. The finished pumpkins measure approximately 8 inches wide by 6 inches tall. See Pumpkin Size Adjustment details below to create a larger or smaller pumpkin.

Yarn Colors:

I receive many questions regarding the specific yarn colors I use for my projects! Oftentimes, I use leftover colors in my yarn stash that I have lost the labels for or have acquired secondhand without labels, so I apologize if I cannot list them all each time! Below are the specific brands/colors I do know for this particular pattern!

  • Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn in the color 'Cream'

  • Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn in the color 'Pumpkin'

  • Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn in the color 'Cilantro'

This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

  • Chain

  • HDC - Half Double Crochet

  • Slip Stitch

Rustic Pumpkins - Free Crochet Pattern

Pumpkin Base:

With the pumpkin color of your choice, Chain 17

Row 1: HDC in the 3rd chain from your hook, HDC in the next 14 stitches, chain 2 (15 stitches)

Rows 2-15: HDC in the back loops only of each stitch, chain 2 (15 stitches)

Place both ends of the base together (the foundation chains and the row you just finished) and slip stitch them together all the way down. Once you reach the end, chain one and tie off with a long tail.

Top and Bottom:

Using a tapestry needle, weave the long tail in and out around one of the openings pulling it closed as you go around.

Add your stuffing to the desired plumpness (less is more since this bulky yarn can be seen through if overstuffed).

Insert your yarn needle through the bottom center of the hole you just closed and bring it up through the center of the stuffing and out of the top. Place your stem into the center as a guide.

Now, repeat the weaving around the edges of the top opening until it is closed around your stem securely.

Carefully insert your needle down through the top center and out the bottom, pulling tight to create the pumpkin shape in the center.

Tie off at the bottom and trim any excess yarn.

Add your cute faux leather bow!

Pumpkin Size Adjustment

You could easily adjust the size of your pumpkin based on how many stitches and rows you use. This crochet pattern is 15 rows of 15 stitches per row. You could increase or decrease as long as the stitches and rows are the same number. For example, if you wanted a bigger pumpkin you could chain 22 (20 plus the chain 2) and 20 rows.

I hope you have enjoyed crocheting these Rustic Pumpkins with me!
