Chewbacca Amigurumi - Free Crochet Pattern

Hello, hi and welcome back! I'm excited to share my crochet pattern for this adorable little Chewbacca amigurumi! He is the cutest Star Wars marathon companion and a quick crochet project! He is the perfect friend for my Baby Yoda Amigurumi and the perfect gift for the Star Wars fan in your life!
This Chewbacca crochet pattern is comprised of the body, arms, and head which are stuffed and stitched together using a tapestry needle. His hair is created by brushing the yarn out and his bag is crocheted separately. The finished amigurumi measures approximately 8" tall. You could easily increase the yarn weight and hook size to make a larger Chewie.

Yarn Colors:
I receive many questions regarding the specific yarn colors I use for my projects! Oftentimes, I use leftover colors in my yarn stash that I have lost the labels for or have acquired secondhand without labels, so I apologize if I cannot list them all each time! Below are the specific brands/colors I do know for this particular pattern!
Red Heart Super Saver in the color 'Cafe Latte'
Cream (Sorry, I'm not sure!)
Dark Brown (Sorry, I'm not sure!)
Stitches:
This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
Chain
SC - Single Crochet
Slip Stitch
Magic Circle
SC decrease
* - Repeat sequence until the end of the round
Chewbacca Amigurumi Free Crochet Pattern
Legs & Torso:
With light brown
Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch (12 stitches)
Rounds 3-6: SC in each stitch (12 stitches)
Chain 1, tie off with a short tail and pull through the chain stitch to secure; set aside
Second Leg:
Repeat Rounds 1-6 without tying off after Round 6
Round 7: After the last stitch of round 6, SC directly into the 6th row of the other leg and continue to SC all the way around both legs (24 stitches)
Rounds 8-12: SC in each stitch (24 stitches)
Round 13: SC decrease, SC in the next 4 stitches* (20 stitches)
Round 14: SC in each (20 stitches)
Round 15: SC decrease, SC in the next 3 stitches* (16 stitches)
Slip stitch, chain 1 and tie off pulling through the chain stitch to secure
Add stuffing; set aside
Arms:
With light brown
Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)
Round 2: 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch (9 stitches)
Rounds 3-9: SC in each (9 stitches)
Slip stitch, chain 1 and tie off pulling through the chain to secure.
The only stuffing for the arms is the remaining tail from where we began the magic circle. Use the tie off tail and a tapestry needle to stitch the opening closed and attach arm to the torso.
Head:
With light brown
Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch (12 stitches)
Round 3: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next stitch* (18 stitches)
Round 4: 2 SC in the first, SC in the next two stitches* (24 stitches)
Round 5: 2 Sc in the first, SC in the next three stitches* (30 stitches)
Rounds 6-8: SC in each stitch (30 stitches)
Round 9: SC decrease, SC in the next 4 stitches* (25 stitches)
Round 10: SC in each stitch (25 stitches)
Round 11: SC decrease, SC in the next 3 stitches* (20 stitches)
Round 12: SC in each stitch (20 stitches)
Round 13: In the front loops only, 2 SC in the first, SC in the next 4 stitches* (25 stitches)
Slip stitch, chain 1 and tie off with a long tail pulling through the chain to secure.
Face:
Attach the safety eyes.
Using dark brown yarn and a tapestry needle, stitch a little nose between the eyes (I went over the nose several times to get the desired thickness).
After the face is complete, add stuffing to the head and use the long tail to attach the head to the torso.
Tie off and weave in any loose ends; trim any excess yarn.
Bag:
With dark brown
Chain 6
Rows 1-8: SC in each (5 stitches)
Chain 1, tie off with a short tail and pull through the chain to secure.
Fold the work in half, creating a bag shape.
Join to what would be the bottom right corner of the bag.
Slip stitch from the bottom to the top of the right side through both sides of the bag to connect.
Without tying off, chain 20 (this will be the strap; make sure it is not twisted)
Without tying off, slip stitch down the left side of the bag from top to bottom, joining the other side of the bag
Chain 1, turn
SC down the side we've just finished, across the chain stitches and down the other side.
Slip stitch, chain 1, tie off pulling through the chain stitch to secure.
With cream yarn
Using a tapestry needle, stitch 'vertical dashes' onto the strap of the bag.
Hair:
This step is optional, but is so much fun and adds character! This was my first adventure creating amigurumi hair, so I started on the backside to get the feel for the right brush strokes.
Leaving his bag off, brush vigorously in the direction you want the hair to fall (It was definitely a Goldilocks situation for how hard to brush...not too hard...not too soft...but juuuust right!)
Make sure to cover the eyes and nose so you don't brush them out! I just used my finger to cover them up.
Once you're happy with his hair, place the bag over his shoulder!
