Cow Cuddle Buddy - Free Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 13

Hello, hi & welcome back! I'm so excited to share my Cow Cuddle Buddy Free Crochet Pattern with you! They are the most adorable baby or toddler companions and a thoughtful baby shower gift idea! These crochet cows are quick, simple, and a fun additions to a farm-themed nursery.

The finished Crochet Cow Cuddle Buddy measures approximately 7 inches tall by 4-5 inches wide and is comprised of a front, back, snout, ears, horns, arms, legs and spots that are all stitched together using a tapestry needle. We will be attaching safety eyes and adding a bit of stuffing between the front and back. You'll notice some portions of the pattern will be the same, but you'll use different colors depending on which version of the cow you're making.

Border:

  • To clean up the edges of the snout, we're going to continue from the end of Row 5 down the left side all the way around with a round of single crochet.

  • Once you arrive back to the beginning, slip stitch into the first stitch of the border, chain 1 and tie off with a long tail.

Snout Attachment / Completion:

  • Using a tapestry needle and a string of black yarn, stitch on two little nose slits. Tie off on the back side and trim any excess yarn.

  • Placement: The top of the snout should sit approximately on the 8th row down from the top of the head.

  • Using your tapestry needle and the long tail from the snout, stitch the snout onto the front base of the body. We want the snout to protrude in a slightly 3D manner so feel free to add a light amount of stuffing if needed. Tie off and trim any excess yarn.

Cow Cuddle Buddy Eyes:

At this point, attach the 12mm safety eyes and secure the backs just above the snout.

Crochet Cow Horns (Make 2):

With Brown Yarn

Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)

Rounds 2-4: SC in each stitch (6 stitches)

slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long tail

Crochet Cow Flowers (Make 3):

With the yarn colors of your choice, Chain 8

Row 1: 2 SC in each stitch across, chain 1 (14 stitches)

Tie off with a long tail and pull through the chain stitch to secure.

  • It will naturally start to curl so we will just curl it into a circle/spiral flower!

  • Using a tapestry needle, secure the underside together.

Assembly:

  • Line up both sides of the body base (making sure the face/spots are on the outside).

  • Join the front and back together with a round of single crochet *the only exception to single crocheting is we are going to slip stitch in the stitch where the body and head meet (or the 'neck') to keep a more prominent indent*

  • Be sure to add your stuffing before closing entirely and tying off.

  • Using a tapestry needle and the long tails, stitch on the legs, ears, and horns/flowers.

  • Tie off and trim any excess yarn.
